Dental crowns, also known as caps, are custom-made restorations that cover the entire visible portion of a tooth above the gumline.

They are recommended for various situations, including protecting a weak tooth from further damage, restoring a broken or severely decayed tooth, or improving the appearance of a discoloured or misshapen tooth.

The lifespan of a dental crown depends on several factors, including oral hygiene habits, diet, and the material used for the crown.

On average, dental crowns can last anywhere from 5 to 15 years or more with proper care and maintenance.

The process for getting a dental crown typically involves two appointments. Dr Leda prepares the tooth during the first appointment by removing any decay or damage. She then builds up a new core for the crown to go over. A digital scan of the tooth is taken that goes directly to the laboratory for the new custom-made crown to be made.

A temporary crown is placed while the custom-made permanent crown is fabricated in a dental laboratory. At the second appointment, the temporary crown is removed, and the permanent crown is bonded into place.
